Harm Reduction Division
The Harm Reduction Division of Fargo Cass Public Health is dedicated to the implementation of policies, programs and practices that work to reduce the harms associated with the use of alcohol, drugs or other risky behaviors.
Harm Reduction is an approach that promotes health, accepting and acknowledging that not everyone is ready or capable of stopping their specific behavior at a given time.
Harm Reduction principles include:
- Non-judgmental approach that meets people where they are at
- Treating all individuals with dignity, compassion and respect
- Destigmatizing persons with substance use disorder
- Use of evidence-based policy and practice
- Focus on quality life improvements
We provide a variety of programs that offer low-barrier services for people experiencing homelessness and/or who may be affected by mental health conditions or substance use disorder. Services are provided in a non-judgmental manner across a variety of program areas.
