Upcoming Homeschool Events
Secret Agent STEAM
Your mission: learn what it takes to be a secret agent using science, technology, engineering, art, and math! During this special operation, you'll learn how to solve a code and make your own, analyze fingerprints and shoe prints, spot clues, invent a disguise, and more! This mission will take place at the Main Library on Jan. 31 at 2 p.m. No pre-registration is required. This event is most appropriate for ages 5 and older.
History Alive! Book Club
Kids in grades 3-7 are invited to experience history in an entertaining and thought-provoking way at the new History Alive! Book Club. Join us at the Main Library at 2 p.m. as we experience books and history through fun activities, lively discussion, snacks and more! Pick up your book and register at the Children's Desk in the Main Library, or call 701.241.1495. Registration opens, and books become available, one month in advance of the meeting.

Homeschool Huddle: Board Games & Jigsaw Puzzles
Join us at the Main Library on Feb. 21 from 1 to 3 p.m. as we spend the afternoon hobnobbing with homeschool buddies while playing board games, putting together jigsaw puzzles, and making new friends. All ages are welcome to attend.
PBS Kids Writers Contest Workshop
Get out your pencils: it's time for Prairie Public's PBS Kids Writers Contest! Kids in Kindergarten through 5th grade are invited to join Prairie Public at the Main Library on March 6 at 2 p.m. for a fun workshop to learn all about writing, illustrating, and crafting your own story for the contest.
Knitting Basics
Try a new hobby this winter by coming to the library and learning the basics of knitting with Cari Jehlik from the Prairie Arts Center! Teens ages 11 to 18 will learn how to cast on, kniit, and bind off by making a simple washcloth at the Main Library on March 27 at 1 p.m. Registration is required and opens on March 13.
Yarn Projects
While the teens learn to knit, we'll be wrapping, cutting, weaving, and more with fun yarn projects of our own at the Main Library on March 27 at 1 p.m. This event is most appropriate for kids ages 3 and older. No pre-registration is required.
Homeschool Huddle: LEGO Challenges & Open Building
Kids are invited to another Homeschool Huddle! Test your creativity, problem-solving, and speed with LEGO challenges, and take part in open building while hanging out with friends and meeting new ones at the Main Library on April 21 from 1 to 3 p.m. Let's make something amazing together - one brick at a time! All ages are welcome to attend.
Introduction to Geocaching
All ages are invited to learn about geocaching - the global treasure hunt that's happing right in your own backyard! In this event you'll be introduced to the basics of geocaching and then you'll get the chance to put your skills to the test as we search for hidden caches in the area. This event takes place at the Northport Branch on May 15 at 2 p.m. Whether you are a beginner or just curious, this event is a chance to connect with fellow adventurers and explore our community. Please register all participants beginning May 1.
Meeting Rooms
The Fargo Public Library has meeting rooms available for use by the general public at each of our three locations:
• Community Rooms are available at no charge to non-profit groups and require a reservation.
• Conference Rooms are available at no charge to all. Reservations are encouraged, but walk-ins are allowed in conference rooms if not in use.
- Small study rooms are available at the Main and Dr. James Carlson Libraries on a first-come, first-served basis.

Library of Things and Special Collections
The Library of Things includes nontraditional items that can help to enhance your curriculum and learning experiences. All items are available to check out and can be requested for pick-up at any Fargo Public Library location.
Special Collections include Topic Totes and Story-On-the-Go Kits.
Language Learning
Mango Languages
Become conversational in any of 60 languages with Mango Languages. A self paced, simple learning environment makes it easy to start learning Spanish, French, German or another language. Mango also contains English courses conducted in 14 different languages. Mango is available on both mobile devices and desktops. A microphone is preferred.
Rosetta Stone
Using Rosetta Stone's immersion courses based on pictures and voice and requiring no existing knowledge of a language, learn 30 different languages, including English. Rosetta Stone requires a microphone.

Homework Help for Elementary Students
The Fargo Public Library subscribes to multiple online encyclopedias and information databases directed toward elementary age students. These resources may be accessed from home or in the library. Some do require signing in with a library card number. Your last name in capital letters will be your password, unless you previously changed it.

Parent/Teacher Resource Center
The Parent/Teacher Resource Center is a collection of books and interactive materials located in the Children's Room at the Main Library. Materials of interest to homeschool families include homeschooling guides, activity books, Hooked on Phonics, Hooked on Math and Hooked on Spelling kits, ND Studies Project books, and most all of the Caldecott, Newberry and ND Flicker Tale award-winning titles.
