Why Organize My Neighborhood?

A strong neighborhood group is a valuable tool in maintaining healthy communities. Neighborhood organizations bring together people of diverse backgrounds who share common concerns for their safety, properties, homes and community interests.

Neighborhood organizations help city staff and elected officials identify and resolve issues and concerns in a particular area. There is strength in numbers - having a unified voice can make a difference.

Neighborhoods usually organize to:

  • Build a sense of community among neighbors;
  • Address a particular issue of the neighborhood; and
  • Empower residents to work together in improving their neighborhood.

Neighborhood groups who are registered with the city also have the opportunity to participate in a variety of government processes. These groups receive information about events and activities, as well as public works projects that are scheduled in their area. They also are part of the referral process for certain land development activities.
