North Dakota Public Employees Retirement System (NDPERS)
City employees who are benefit eligible are required to participate in the North Dakota Public Employees Retirement System (NDPERS) for retirement purposes. Benefit eligible employees are required to contribute 7% of their gross wages. The City of Fargo contributes 9.26%. Non benefit eligible employees are able to participate also but are required to contribute 16.26% of gross wages as the City of Fargo does not contribute on their behalf. Effective January 1, 2025, City employees who are benefit eligible are required to participate in the North Dakota Public Employees Retirement System (NDPERS) for retirement purposes. Benefit eligible employees are required to contribute 4% of their gross wages into the defined contribution plan. The City of Fargo contributes 5.26%. Employees can elect up to an additional 3%, which the City will match. Non benefit eligible employees are able to participate also but are required to contribute 9.26% of gross wages as the City of Fargo does not contribute on their behalf, they can also do an additional 6%. Police or fire employees have a separate pension plan and are not eligible to participate in NDPERS.
