Arts & Culture Commission - February 19, 2025 Minutes
The Regular Meeting of the Arts and Culture Commission of the City of Fargo, North Dakota, was held in the Commission Chambers at City Hall at 4:00 p.m., February 19, 2025.
The Arts and Culture Commissioners present or absent were as follows:
Present: Tracy Jordre, Monika Browne-Ecker, Danyel Moe, Anna Johnson,
Deb Williams
Absent: Tracy Walvatne, Jon Offutt, Joshua Zeis, Tori Benders
Item 1: Welcome and Introductions
Chair Jordre called the meeting to order and welcomed Members to the meeting.
Item 2: Approve Agenda and Minutes
Member Williams moved to approve the Order of Agenda. Second by Member Johnson. All Members present voted aye and the motion was declared carried.
a. November 20, 2024
Member Williams moved the Minutes of the November 20, 2024 Arts and Culture Commission meeting be approved. Second by Member Browne-Ecker. All Members present voted aye and the motion was declared carried.
b. February 10, 2025 (Informational Meeting)
Member Williams moved the Minutes of the February 10, 2025 Arts and Culture Commission informational meeting be approved. Second by Member Johnson. All Members present voted aye and the motion was declared carried.
Item 3: Board Appointments
Member Williams served as the Nominating Committee and nominated Member Johnson to serve as Vice Chair.
Member Browne-Ecker moved to approve Member Johnson as the Vice Chair. Second by Member Moe. All Members present voted aye and the motion was declared carried.
Member Williams nominated Member Browne-Ecker to serve as the Chair.
Member Jordre moved to approve Member Browne-Ecker as Chair. Second by Member Williams. All Members present voted aye and the motion was declared carried.
Item 4: ROI: Ripples of Impact Final Document Recommendation
Chair Jordre stated that on February 10, there was a joint informational meeting with the Arts and Culture Commission and the City Commission, where the Ripples of Impact was discussed
Member Williams moved to approve the recommendation to receive and file the Ripples of Impact document to the City Commission. Second by Member Browne-Ecker. All Members present voted aye and the motion was declared carried.
Item 5: Communication Plan – Presentation by Communications And Government Affairs Department
Planning and Development Director Nicole Crutchfield introduced the Communications and Government Affairs Team working on the Communication Plan.
Chief Communications Officer Gregg Schildberger presented the goal of the Communication Plan to view untold stories and take a behind the scenes look at the public art process. He noted this would create a good approach to engage awareness within the community.
Communications Project Manager Emily Groth shared platform specific strategies of several sources of social media that included stories, targeted neighborhoods, quotes, and artist highlights. She mentioned this is a great way to get the community’s input and insights for in-depth public discussion and collaboration.
Item 6: 2025 Work Items and Staff Report
Ms. Crutchfield commented that the Planning Department and Communications Department have been coordinating a communications plan focusing on the Ripples of Impact document. She noted the 2026 budget process will begin this spring and gave an update that staff is working on website updates that include documenting current and previous City Hall exhibits.
