Arts and Culture Commission - March 27, 2024 Minutes
The Special Meeting of the Arts and Culture Commission of the City of Fargo, North Dakota, was held in the Meadowlark Room at City Hall at 4:00 p.m., March 27, 2024.
The Arts and Culture Commissioners present or absent were as follows:
Present: Danyel Moe, Tracy Jordre, Jon Offutt, Tracy Walvatne, Joe Williams, Anna Johnson, Deb Williams
Absent: Monika Browne-Ecker
Chair Jordre called the meeting to order and welcomed Members to the meeting.
Item 1: Welcome and Introductions
Member Offutt moved to approve the Order of Agenda. Second by Member Johnson. All Members present voted aye and the motion was declared carried.
Item 2: Approve Agenda and Minutes
Member D. Williams moved the Minutes of the November 15, 2023 Arts and Culture Commission meeting be approved. Second by Member Offutt. All Members present voted aye and the motion was declared carried.
Item 3: Presentation by Brad Bachmeier of incorporation of art in airports
Brad Bachmeier presented on the incorporation of art in airports, which he presented previously to the Fargo Municipal Airport Authority Board.
Discussion was held regarding the redesign of the airport and potential for inclusion of art, including display and exhibition space, funding, partnerships, need for artists, and consultants.
Item 4: Recommendations for Student Art for Bus Wrap
Chair Jordre introduced the recommendations for the Student Art for Bus Wrap. She noted Members D. Williams and Browne-Ecker served on the selection subcommittee.
Discussion was held regarding the submitted designs, selection process, number of wraps to be done, and funding.
Member Offutt moved to approve the top three selections to the City Commission. Second by Member D. Williams. All Members present voted aye and the motion was declared carried.
Member Offutt absent.
Discussion continued regarding funding, staff time spent on the project, City departments involved in the process, and the possibility of doing another wrap.
Item 5: Deaccession of Randy Hayes Piece
Chair Jordre shared the staff memo regarding the Deaccession of the Randy Hayes piece.
Member D. Williams moved to deaccession “Untitled (Woman with Blanket)” by Randy Hayes and convey back to the artist or artist’s family. Second by Member Johnson. All Members present voted aye and the motion was declared carried.
Item 6: Summary of Quarter 3 and 4 Work Session
Chair Jordre noted information regarding the Summary of Quarter 3 and 4 Work Session can be found in the packet.
Item 7: Staff Report
Planning Coordinator Maegin Elshaug shared information on the art exhibits noted in the Staff Report.
Item 8: Announcements
Member Johnson announced she will be demoing printmaking at Gallery4 in West Acres March 28 from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Member J. Williams shared the Indigenous Art Fair is coming up and will be a two day event.
