The City of Fargo is announcing the winners of its “Mayor for a Day” essay contest, an initiative designed to engage young minds and encourage students to share their vision for the community. The contest, open to students in Fargo Public Schools, invited participants to answer the question: "What would you do if you were mayor for a day?"

After reviewing 46 submissions, Mayor Dr. Tim Mahoney selected students Evelyn Anderson and Ninjin Bat-Od as the contest winners. Evelyn is a third grader at Eagles Elementary, and Ninjin is in third grade at Bennett Elementary. Their essays were chosen based on originality, content, grammar and structure. The winning essays can be viewed here.

As part of their recognition, Evelyn and Ninjin, along with their families will have the opportunity to meet Mayor Mahoney and tour City Hall on Monday, March 31. Following the tour, the two students will read their essays during the City Commission meeting at 5 p.m.
