City Hall - Street Impacts
Zone: DowntownWhat zone am I?
Completed
Start: July 2016
Estimated Completion: November 2018
Project Overview:
The City of Fargo has completed the construction of a new City Hall after more than two years of ongoing construction. For more information on the construction project, visit the New City Hall web page.
Current Status:
Substantial construction activities have been completed and the new City Hall opened for business to the public on Monday, September 17th.
Purpose:
The current City Hall was built in the 1960s and has reached the end of its useful life. The roof leaks and the building has poor heating, falling ceilings and an inefficient layout for employees and departments that collaborate. Plans for the new area also include a civic plaza that will connect Broadway to the riverfront via 2nd Avenue North.
Location:
Downtown Fargo between 2nd Street North and 4th Street North, and 1st Avenue North and 3rd Avenue North. The new building will be located at the north end of the current Civic Center parking lot.
Timeline:
Demolition of Centennial Hall was completed in the summer of 2016, allowing for construction to begin on the new City Hall in August of 2016. Construction was completed in September of 2018, with demolition of the old City Hall scheduled for completion by late fall of 2018.
