Zone: Downtown
Project: 4th Avenue North

Contractors for the City of Fargo’s 4th Avenue N Reconstruction and Water Main Replacement Project plan to start work on phase one the morning of Thursday, July 13. At this time, drivers will experience the following road closures and traffic impacts:

  • 4th Ave. N: Closed east of the 4th Street N intersection through the 3rd Street N intersection
  • 3rd St. N: Closed north of 4th Ave. N to the railroad tracks

Crews have approximately three weeks to complete work on 3rd St. N, then will progress through the project working east to west. Late this month or early next month, they will begin phase two of the project, impacting 4th Ave. N from 4th St. N to east of Broadway. Project work for phases one and two will overlap so crews can complete the project on time, closing 4th Ave. N from east of Broadway through the 3rd St. N intersection. There will not be any posted detour routes, but drivers should use side streets to get around the work zone. Sidewalks will be maintained for pedestrians and business access during both phases.

Project improvements include complete roadway reconstruction, water main replacement, sanitary and storm sewer replacement, new street lighting and sidewalks. This stretch of 4th Ave. N, as well as many underground utilities in the area, were installed more than 100 years ago. The road is deteriorating and utilities are breaking, so replacement will minimize impacts and costs. All project work is scheduled to be completed early November, weather permitting.

**Please remember all schedules are tentative and weather dependent.
