Karena Ness

Ness grew up in a rural environment surrounded by the wide open sky and fields of eastern North Dakota. She moved south to attend Savannah College of Art and Design furthering her study and exploration of painting. She earned her M.F.A. in Painting in 2004.

New Hampshire then became her home where she both exhibited and taught art within the region. Most recently in 2018 Karena returned full circle back to her ND roots, back to family, home and the open plains. She currently teaches and continues to be active in her own studio practice.

Karena's artwork is suggestive of the natural world and alludes to the flight and movement of birds. These birds are not predetermined, as Karena suggests rather they appear to land and take flight unintentionally. They entail no formal classification yet offer an identity within the spaces they inhabit.
