HeartSafe Fargo
Sudden cardiac arrest is the leading cause of death in the United States. Immediate treatment is critical to the survival of a person suffering cardiac problems. It is said that a person's chance of survival decreases by 10% every minute intervention is delayed. Having an automatic external defibrillator (AED) and someone trained to perform CPR in your business increases the odds that a person suffering cardiac problems will survive by providing critical links in the Chain of Survival.
To achieve this, the Fargo Fire Department partnered with Essentia Health in 2011 to develop the HeartSafe Fargo program. The program has 3 goals:
- Increase the number of AEDs in local businesses
- Increase the number of people trained to perform CPR and use an AED
- Create public awareness of the locations of AEDs in the community
