HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION MINUTES

Regular Meeting: Thursday, October 19, 2023

The Regular Meeting of the Human Rights Commission of the City of Fargo, North Dakota, was held in the Commission Chambers at City Hall at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, October 19, 2023.

The Human Rights Commissioners present or absent were as follows:

Present: Cody Severson, Sekou Sirleaf, Nancy Boyle, Hon. Carolyn Becraft, Cheryl Schaefle, Kristin Nelson, Tambah Saah, Xavier Welty

Absent: Zoe Absey, Ritchell Aboah,

Item 1. Welcome and Introductions
Chair Severson welcomed Members to the meeting and introductions were made.

Item 2. Approve Order of Agenda
Member Becraft moved the Order of Agenda be approved as presented, second by member Saah. All Members present voted aye and the motion was declared carried.

Item 3. Approve Order of Minutes
Member Boyle moved the Order of June and August Minutes be approved as presented, second by member Becraft. All Members present voted aye and the motion was declared carried.

Item 4. Approve Order of Statement of Support to International Plaza
Member Becraft moved the Order of Statement of Support to International Plaza approved as presented, second by member Schaefle. All Members present voted aye and the motion was declared carried.

Item 5. Breaking Barriers, presentation by Larry Peterson
Peterson discussed the history of Red River Rainbow Senior. Peterson shared stories of community members that have participated in Breaking Barriers, Harvesting LGBTQ Stories from the Northern Plains.

Item 6. Arbors Community Collaborative Efforts, presentation by Sarah Bagley
Bagley discussed the community partnership that is provided at the Arbors. Bagley stated that residents benefit from all the resource that community partners provide on-site. Bagley also provided information on the remodeling on that was completed on the properties.

Item 7. MLK 2024 Updates
Fred Edwards provided an update on curating the upcoming MLK event in January 2024.

Item 8. Staff Updates
Member Nelson provided update regarding touring the Downtown Engagement Center.

Item 9. Announcements Member Sirleaf shared community forum coming up on October 30th, 6:00P.M. - 7:30P.M. The community forum Cass/Clay County New American Older Adult will be held at the Dakota Medical Foundation located at 4141 28th St. South, Fargo.
