Human Relations Commission Meeting Minutes - July 15, 2021

The Regular Meeting of the Board of Human Relations Commissioners of the City of Fargo, North Dakota, was held in the Commission Chambers at City Hall at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, July 15, 2021.

The Human Relations Commissioners present or absent were as follows:

Present: Abdiwali Sharif-Abdinasir, Cheryl Schaefle, Matuor Alier, Laetitia Hellerud, Hamida Dakane, Cody Severson, Ahmed Shiil, Carolyn Becraft

Absent: Barry Nelson

Item 1. Welcome and Introductions
Chair Alier welcomed Members to the meeting and introductions were made.

Item 2. Approve Order of Agenda
Member Schaefle moved the Order of Agenda be approved as presented. Second by Member Schaefle. All Members present voted aye and the motion was declared carried.

Item 3. Approve Order of Minutes
Member Becraft moved the minutes of the June 17, 2021 Human Relations Commission meeting be approved as presented. Second by Member Dakane. All Members present voted aye and the motion was declared carried.

Item 4. Public Comment
No public comment was provided.

Item 5. Announcements
Chair Alier introduced the new Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Dr. Terry Hogan, and noted he will present at the August Human Relations Commission meeting.

Member Hellerud present.

Item 6. Staff Updates
Jamie Garvey, Fargo Fire Department, shared information about the upcoming recruitment and orientation event for new firefighters this fall. He stated the events will be held at Station #4 on September 11 at 1:00 p.m., and September 17 at 7:00 p.m. Interested candidates can register by emailing jgravey@fargond.gov.

Discussion was held on the number of firefighters the department is looking to hire, benefit information, and job and time commitment.
