The City of Fargo Forestry Department, Fargo Park District and River Keepers will celebrate Arbor Day in partnership with Fargo Public Schools on Wednesday, May 21, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Village West Dog Park (4415 9th Avenue Circle South). After a speaking presentation, students from Carl Ben Eielson Middle School will plant 59 new trees. This project is supported by an America the Beautiful Tree Planting Grant from the North Dakota Forest Service.
The Arbor Day Foundation has named The City of Fargo a 2025 Tree City USA, making this the 48th year Fargo has earned this honor. The Tree City USA program was founded in 1976 to encourage cities to establish and maintain urban forests. Tree City USA recognition is attained by meeting four overarching standards:
• Maintaining a tree board or department
• Having a community tree ordinance
• Spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry
• Celebrating Arbor Day
More information about the Tree City USA program is available at ArborDay.org.
