WHEREAS, John Wheeler has been a meteorologist at WDAY-TV for 40 years and is the longest serving meteorologist in Fargo; and
WHEREAS,, During those four decades, John has kept us safe and informed during record floods, blizzards and severe summer storms and he blends science and communication to make weather understandable to viewers and readers; and
WHEREAS,, John has received several regional and national awards as part of the WDAY news team, including the North Dakota Broadcasters Association Teddy Award for Best Television Weatherperson as well as the Pioneer Award; and
WHEREAS,, John has shared his knowledge and love for weather with various local and regional groups over the years and spent more than 17 years teaching communication classes at NDSU; and
WHEREAS,, John was often called upon to consult on weather impacts by various City departments, event organizers and organizations, including the City’s Public Works Department, the FM RedHawks and the Downtown Fargo Street Fair; and
WHEREAS,, Due to John’s love of winter and the cold and the fact that he was known to walk from his home to the WDAY station and NDSU nearly every day, no matter the weather, the City honored John earlier this year by naming one of its snowplows the “Wheeler Snow Peeler.”
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Dr. Timothy J. Mahoney, Mayor of the City of Fargo, North Dakota, do hereby proclaim May 16, 2025 to be
JOHN WHEELER DAY
in the City of Fargo where the citizens and myself wish for a forecast of clear and sunny days ahead for John, his wife, Emily, and their family.
