The City of Fargo to Light the Night Red in National Tribute to Fallen Firefighters

The Fargo Fire Department encourages residents to display red lightbulbs at homes and businesses

05/01/2025

Fargo City Hall and the Spirit of the Sandbagger monument will be illuminated in red light on the night of Saturday, May 3, as part of a nationwide tribute to fallen firefighters. Residents can join the tribute by displaying red lights at their homes and businesses.

“I encourage residents to change out a regular lightbulb for a red one to show support for fire families in the Fargo area and across our nation. Lighting the night red reminds us of the dangers that firefighters courageously confront every day,” said Fargo Fire Chief Steve Dirksen.

The Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters tribute is held in conjunction with the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend on May 3-4 in Emmitsburg, Maryland. During the memorial, which is organized by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, the country will honor the 70 firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty in 2024 and 70 in previous years.

Since 1992, the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation has worked to honor and remember America’s fallen firefighters, provide resources to assist their families in rebuilding their lives and work within the fire service community to reduce firefighter deaths and injuries.
