WHEREAS, Make-A-Wish was founded by family and friends of seven-year-old Chris Greicius, who got his wish to be a police officer on April 29, 1980; and
WHEREAS, The organization now known as Make-A-Wish has since granted more than 615,000 wishes worldwide, operating in every community in the United States and in nearly 50 countries; and
WHEREAS, Four forward-thinking and generous Fargo-area WishMakers brought the mission of creating life-changing wishes for children ages 2 1⁄2 to 18 years old with critical illnesses to our state in 1985; and
WHEREAS, Make-A-Wish North Dakota has granted more than 1,150 wishes in our state over the last 40 years, delivering hope and joy back into the lives of children with critical illnesses; and
WHEREAS, When a wish is granted, a child replaces fear with confidence, anxiety with hope and sadness with joy; and
WHEREAS, Research has shown that wishes can improve a child's quality of life and produce better health outcomes; and
WHEREAS, Make-A-Wish depends on WishMakers such as medical partners, local volunteers and donors to realize its vision of reaching every eligible child to make their wishes come true.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Dr. Timothy J. Mahoney, Mayor of the City of Fargo, North Dakota, do hereby proclaim April 29, 2025 as
WORLD WISH DAY
