On Monday night, we continued our effort to recognize and highlight the incredible work our City departments do every day to serve the residents of Fargo. Our team works tirelessly to keep operations running smoothly—24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
As part of each Commission meeting, we take time at the beginning to spotlight one of our departments and honor their dedication, hard work and outstanding customer service. These teams are the backbone of local government, and it’s important we recognize the people who make it all happen.
We also look forward to sharing these stories with our community, demonstrating our commitment to going above and beyond for our residents.
On Monday, we highlighted The City of Fargo’s Public Works Department. This team is responsible for delivering a wide range of high-quality services to our community—regardless of the season.
Throughout the year, Public Works crews are busy keeping Fargo safe, clean and functional. They sweep streets, plow roads, patch potholes, plant trees, pick up litter, unclog sewers, repair City vehicles, flush fire hydrants—the list goes on.
Their work is essential to maintaining the quality of life we all enjoy in Fargo.
As we spotlight the achievements of our departments, we are instituting an honor for City employees called the Fargo Rising Star Award.
This award honors employees who have been with The City of Fargo for seven years or less and have consistently gone above and beyond in their service to our community.
On Monday, we bestowed the Fargo Rising Star Award to a recipient chosen by the leadership of the Public Works Department.
The award went to Alyssa Geller, who’s worked for the Public Works Department for about two years as an Office Associate III. She performs many duties that are essential for delivering key programs and services to the community.
Alyssa answers a high volume of phone calls for all divisions of Public Works and provides residents with assistance and information on the department's activities, services, rules and regulations. She takes calls from emergency dispatchers and ensures that requests are made to the appropriate crew or supervisor.
Alyssa manages utility locate requests – ensuring that utilities are properly marked before excavation work begins. She maintains employee records, conducts orientations for new hires and schedules interviews. During snow removal operations, Alyssa addresses property owner concerns and coordinates inspections to resolve issues.
Alyssa is a dedicated professional with a strong work ethic. Her willingness to help others and her positive, can-do attitude make her a valuable team member.
Alyssa always goes the extra mile to resolve issues for coworkers and citizens alike.
Congratulations, Alyssa! Your commitment to service and your outstanding efforts truly make you a Fargo Rising Star.
