The Mayor's Message

As we spotlight the achievements of our City departments, we are instituting a new honor for City employees called the Fargo Rising Star Award.

03/03/2025 5:00 p.m.

On Monday evening, we launched an ongoing effort to showcase and highlight each of our City departments and everything they do to keep our City running smoothly. No matter the season – we have City employees serving our residents 24/7/365.

Our departments and their staff are truly exceptional, and we will be taking time at the beginning of our Commission meetings to honor them for their dedication, hard work and customer service that makes local government work for all of us. We look forward to sharing this information with our community and continue to show our commitment to going above and beyond for our residents.

On Monday, we highlighted the Water Department that operates Fargo’s Regional Water Treatment Plant, which serves residents in Fargo, West Fargo and the Cass Rural Water District.

The staff at the Water Treatment Plant monitor our water quality around the clock to ensure it’s pure and safe to drink. If you’ve tried our water, you know it’s world class. The innovation and diligence of our employees at the plant earned them second place in the nation during a blind taste test of tap water.

As we spotlight the achievements of our City departments, we are instituting a new honor for City employees called the Fargo Rising Star Award.

In each department, the award will go to an employee who has been with The City of Fargo for seven years or less and has gone above and beyond in their service to the community.

We are bestowing the very first Fargo Rising Star Award to Matt Hager. Matt was chosen for the award by the departmental leadership of the Water Treatment Plant.

Matt is a Water Treatment Plant Operator 3. He currently holds the second highest license in the State of North Dakota that certifies him as having the knowledge to be a water treatment plant operator, and he is actively working to obtain the highest license.

Matt has worked at the Water Treatment Plant for more than three years. His duties are focused on the complex operations of the plant and the drinking water pumping stations across the region.

His work includes logging regulatory information, monitoring the computer control system, laboratory testing, plant flow changes, chemical adjustments, water plant maintenance and several other tasks.

Matt has a calm demeanor. He’s friendly and helpful to his co-workers, and he always shows a positive attitude. Congratulations, Matt! You are a Fargo Rising Star!
