Mayor’s Proclamation to Recognize Giving Hearts Day

Fargo City Hall will glow red in honor of the annual fundraising event

02/12/2025

Mayor Dr. Tim Mahoney will issue a proclamation declaring Thursday, February 13, 2025, as Giving Hearts Day to encourage support for the 24-hour fundraising event that benefits organizations in North Dakota and northwest Minnesota. The mayor will release his proclamation on February 13, and that evening, Fargo City Hall and the Spirit of the Sandbagger monument will be lit red in honor of Giving Hearts Day.

“The kindness and generosity of the Fargo community always shines bright this time of year. It makes me proud to live in a region full of warm-hearted residents,” Mayor Mahoney stated. “I hope everyone will consider making a donation of their time or money to a local organization on this Giving Hearts Day.”

Hundreds of charities and organizations are participating in Giving Hearts Day this year, including two City of Fargo causes: The Gladys Ray Shelter and the Fargo Police Foundation, formerly the Badges of Unity Fund.

The Fargo Police Foundation is accepting donations to help purchase new K-9s for The Fargo Police Department. In anticipation of two K-9 retirements, the FPD is preparing to replace the police dogs to ensure there is no gap in the services that the K-9 team and their officer handlers provide the community.

The Gladys Ray Shelter is receiving donations to help remove barriers that an individual experiencing homelessness may have to accessing housing. This will allow Gladys Ray staff to assist shelter guests in securing permanent housing and provide support to help prevent a return to homelessness.

Giving Hearts Day is Thursday, February 13, but early giving is now open. To learn more about the Fargo Police Foundation and Gladys Ray Shelter and where to donate, visit FargoND.gov/GivingHearts.
