Fargo to Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.’s Legacy with Artist Showcase and Human Rights Awards Presentation

The Fargo Human Rights Commission will host its annual MLK Day Celebration on Monday, January 20, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. at the Fargo Theatre (314 Broadway N.) as a tribute to civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Doors will open at 6 p.m.

The entire community is invited to this free event that will honor MLK’s life and legacy by celebrating togetherness, progress and the realization of shared dreams. Coordinated by the nonprofit group Fred’s Dissonance, the event will feature speakers, singers, dancers and poets sharing their interpretations of MLK's vision. The theme of the event, “Umoja 56: Living the Dream,” will explore MLK’s legacy over the past 56 years and underscore the importance of “Umoja,” the Swahili word for unity.

During the event, the Human Rights Commission and City Administration, along with Mayor Dr. Tim Mahoney and City Commissioner John Strand, will formally recognize the contributions of community members with Martin Luther King Jr. Day Human Rights Awards in the categories of adult, youth and business/nonprofit organization. The awards recognize those whose work exemplifies MLK’s legacy and uplifts human rights.
