Fargo Fire Station 5 Closing for Reconstruction and Renovation Work

The station, located at 930 40th St. S., is expected to remain closed through August 2025

09/26/2024

The Fargo Fire Department has temporarily closed Fire Station 5, located at 930 40th St. S., for significant reconstruction and renovation work. The closure, effective immediately, is expected to last until August 31, 2025. This decision follows an extensive engineering assessment that found structural issues due to shifting ground beneath the building.

During this time, Station 5 will not be staffed; however, the Fargo Fire Department remains fully committed to ensuring uninterrupted emergency services for residents. Calls in the Station 5 coverage area will be handled by nearby stations and through mutual aid with the West Fargo Fire Department. As always, in the event of an emergency, residents should dial 9-1-1.

The need for this project arose when the foundation of Station 5 began to tilt outward, making the building unsafe for personnel and equipment. After a detailed evaluation with engineering experts, it was determined that the southern portion of the building must be demolished and rebuilt to meet safety standards. In addition to reconstructing this section, contractors will also upgrade the remaining parts of the facility to ensure it is modernized and equipped for the future needs of the department.

The City has allocated $2.5 million for the project, reflecting its commitment to maintaining a high standard of safety and service for both the community and first responders. The Fargo Fire Department appreciates the public’s understanding as it undertakes these necessary improvements.
