Fargo Cass Public Health to Host Exercise Workshop for Older Adults

Fargo Cass Public Health (FCPH) is inviting area adults to register for ‘Fit & Strong!’, a free evidence-based exercise and behavior change workshop geared toward improving lower extremity strength and developing and maintaining an active lifestyle.

Fargo Cass Public Health (FCPH) is inviting area adults to register for ‘Fit & Strong!’, a free evidence-based exercise and behavior change workshop geared toward improving lower extremity strength and developing and maintaining an active lifestyle.

‘Fit & Strong!’ is structured toward older adults or those with lower extremity osteoarthritis with the goal of improving daily function. The twice-weekly classes will include 60 minutes of exercise as well as 30 minutes of group discussion and health education.

The program will last 12 weeks, with the first class scheduled for Tuesday, October 8th. Classes will take place Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. at the main FCPH building, located at 1240 25th Street South, Fargo. Another class will be held Tuesday and Thursdays from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. at Olivet Lutheran Church, 1330 South University Drive, Fargo.

‘Fit & Strong!’ assists participants to:
• Gain a clear understanding of what osteoarthritis is and how physical activity that is tailored to the needs of persons with arthritis can help them manage arthritis symptoms.
• Learn to perform safe stretching, balance, aerobic and strengthening, exercises which gradually increase in frequency, duration, and intensity over time.
• Incorporate physical activity into their lifestyles.

• The program will last 12 weeks, October 8, 2024 – January 9, 2025.
