The Fargo Police Department is Participating in Giving Hearts Day in Effort to Raise Funds for National Police Week

Gate City Bank pledges upwards of $100,000 in matching funds

02/07/2024

In honor of fallen Fargo Police Officer Jake Wallin, members of The Department are making plans to travel to Washington D.C. to witness Officer Wallin's name revealed on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial and participate in the candlelight vigil during the events of National Police Week. This annual event takes place from May 12 to 16 and carries a deep significance to officers in paying tribute to Jake, while also honoring the dedication and sacrifice of the many other brave men and women who lost their lives in the line of duty in 2023.

In a strong display of community support for our department members, Gate City Bank has pledged a monetary donation of $100,000 to assist with related travel costs incurred by The Fargo Police Department to attend this solemn and distinguished ceremony.

“We are deeply honored to attend this event in honor of Jake and his ultimate sacrifice. Gate City Bank has generously pledged to assist the FPD in helping to ensure we have as many officers as possible at National Police Week. We are humbled by this very generous donation and feel honored to serve a community in which our officers are valued, respected and work in partnership to ensure a safe community. Without strong community partnerships and assistance, this trip would not be possible. On behalf of The Fargo Police Department, I would like to sincerely thank our great Fargo community and all of those in our region who have shown us their endless support for our team,” remarked Fargo Police Chief Dave Zibolski.

The FPD invites citizens and businesses alike to join in on fundraising efforts to assist in travel costs associated with this trip by donating to the Badges of Unity Fund under the “Staff Wellness” dropdown tab. The Badges of Unity is also challenging the community to match this donation and help raise an additional $100,000 to assist with travel for FPD personnel.

Donations to the Badges of Unity can be made by visiting FargoND.gov/GivingHearts.
