Mayoral Proclamation - World Breastfeeding Week - 8.1.2022 - 8.7.2022

WHEREAS, Families are a priority in the City of Fargo, and part of helping families thrive is ensuring they receive community support to develop and sustain healthful lifestyles; and

WHEREAS, Breast milk is the optimal food for infants and a proven primary prevention strategy that builds a foundation for life-long health and wellness; and

WHEREAS, Breastfeeding benefits the mother by reducing the risk of ovarian and breast cancer, type 2 diabetes and hypertension; and

WHEREAS, Promoting the Infant Friendly Workplace designation so families continue human milk feeding and support local businesses and organizations with on-site facilities; and

WHEREAS, By providing a supportive and welcoming environment, a breastfeeding friendly community encourages families of all races, ethnicities and family structures to initiate and continue optimal infant feeding/nursing; and

WHEREAS, National Breastfeeding Month and World Breastfeeding Week provide important opportunities to address barriers to human milk feeding faced by families.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That I, Dr. Timothy J. Mahoney, Mayor of The City of Fargo, do hereby proclaim August 1-7, 2022 to be WORLD BREASTFEEDING WEEK in The City of Fargo, North Dakota.
