The Fargo Police Department has partnered with Silver Lining Creamery to promote bike safety in the Downtown Bicycle/Pedestrian Safety Zone.

Bicyclists and skateboarders found to be walking their bicycle, or carrying their skateboard, on the sidewalk in the Downtown Bicycle/Pedestrian Safety Zone, designated on Broadway from NP Ave. to 6 Ave. N., can be rewarded with a coupon for a free scoop of ice cream at Silver Lining Creamery, 123 Broadway N. from the downtown resource officers or beat officers. This campaign was inspired by the “I Got Caught” safety helmet campaign which rewards youth for wearing their safety helmet with a coupon for a free ice cream cone.

The Downtown Bicycle/Pedestrian Safety Zone is marked with street signs and sidewalk markings. Bicyclists are required to walk their bicycles in the Downtown Bicycle/Pedestrian Safety Zone, but may ride on the street while obeying all rules of the road. Bicyclists who do not feel comfortable riding in the roadway are encouraged to take alternate routes such as Roberts St. N. and 4 St. N.

Downtown Fargo is a vibrant place to visit, work, and live resulting in a lot of bicycle and pedestrian traffic. The department is committed to ensuring all pedestrians and bicyclists feel safe while commuting in the downtown area by providing the highest level of service through community partnerships and forward thinking policing.
