The Fargo Public Library is seeking submissions for its fifth annual Northern Narratives winter writing project for adults and teens age 13 years and older that aims to inspire regional writers and serve as a community heirloom. Selected submissions will be included in the library’s North Dakota Collection.

Submissions will be accepted online only from Jan. 15 through March 29, 2021 at the Northern Narratives 2021 Wufoo link. All rules and guidelines for the project are available on the library’s Northern Narratives webpage.

Material selected for the print publication will be announced in the summer of 2021 and all submissions must be original, unpublished, proofread, and edited works. All entries are final and stories will not be returned. The selection committee reserves the right to withhold publication at their own discretion. Chosen selections shall be subject to “first rights” copyright. Any future publication, unrelated to the Fargo Public Library, shall require appropriate attribution. The contest categories are:
• Short Stories: 1,500 – 6,000 words
• Essays: 1,000 – 2,500 words
• Poems: less than 750 words

This project is supported by the Friends of the Fargo Public Library.
