Starting next week, the contractor for the North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) Fargo District and City of Fargo 10th Street North reconstruction project will end winter suspension and resume the final phases of roadway and utility project work. Motorists will encounter two remaining traffic control phases between early May and June in north Fargo.

Starting Monday, May 6, at 5 a.m. crews will close the left driving lane on 10th Street North from south of 4th Avenue North through the 7th Avenue North intersection. The 4th Avenue intersection will be closed to all traffic on the west side of 10th Street. 4th Avenue N westbound traffic will be diverted along 2nd Avenue and 11th Street North. Within the next few weeks, crews will also have a lane closure between the blocks of 11th Avenue North to 12th Avenue North.

Lane closures are necessary for crews to complete sidewalk and driveway work in the 600 and 1100 blocks of 10th Street North. The lane closure in the 1100 block will shift depending on which side of the roadway crews need to be working. Pedestrians will be detoured to the opposite side of the block in each of these areas.

After the completion of North Dakota State University spring semester, crews will move operations to University Drive to continue to prepare to complete the 10th Street N roadway improvements under the railroad underpass and city utility tie-ins between 4th Avenue N to 6th Avenue North.

The underpass will close to all vehicle traffic after work on 4th Avenue is complete. Beginning the week of May 13, motorists will encounter this traffic control on 10th Street N between 4th Avenue N to 7th Avenue North:

  • One driving lane open in each direction
  • Head-to-head northbound and southbound drivers carried on University
    • Northbound 10th Street N traffic will be diverted to University Drive at 4th Avenue N and 10th Street N intersection
  • North of 7th Avenue N one-way traffic will be carried in two open driving lanes on 10th Street N
  • Pedestrians will be carried on one side only through the underpass during the construction

By the end of June, all work is expected to be complete and traffic control will be removed from north Fargo project limits.

Throughout May and June, motorists will encounter short-term lane closures and shoulder work as the contractors finish up the project at various times. This will include permanent striping on both University Drive and 10th Street N from 4th Avenue N to 12th Avenue N. Work on 10th Street from 4th Avenue N to 13th Avenue N will include boulevard grading, seeding, permanent signing and bus shelter installations.

The project work in north Fargo is to upgrade 10th Street N between 4th – 12th Avenue North intersection to improve safety.
