Mayoral Proclamation - Carson Wentz Day - 04.28.2016


  • WHEREAS, Carson Wentz, a native of Bismarck, North Dakota, was an extremely successful quarterback at North Dakota State University in Fargo; and

  • WHEREAS, Carson has thousands of loyal supporters and followers in Fargo and throughout the entire state of North Dakota; and

  • WHEREAS, In his junior season, Carson threw for 3,111 yards and 25 touchdowns, leading the NDSU Bison to its fourth consecutive FCS (Football Champion Subdivision) National Championship in 2015; and

  • WHEREAS, In this senior season, Carson completed 62.5 percent of his passes for 1,651 yards and 17 touchdowns, while also running for six touchdowns and leading the Herd to an FCS National Championship in 2016; and

  • WHEREAS, During his storied tenure, Carson was awarded many accolades, including the 2014 College Sporting News FCS Playoff MVP, 2015 NCAA Elite 90 Award, 2015 CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year, 2014 & 2015 Missouri Valley Football Conference All-Academic First Team and the 2015 & 2016 FCS Championship Most Outstanding Player; and

  • WHEREAS, It is anticipated that Carson will be selected in the first round of the NFL draft tonight; and

  • WHEREAS, Carson will be the first NDSU quarterback drafted into the National Football League (NFL) and is projected to become the highest-drafted non-Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) quarterback in history; and

  • WHEREAS, As a young child, Carson wrote that he wanted to be a professional football player and today, that dream becomes reality.

  • NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Timothy J. Mahoney, Mayor of the City of Fargo, do hereby proclaim Thursday, April 28, 2016, to be Carson Wentz Day in the City of Fargo, North Dakota.

  • IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the City of Fargo, North Dakota to be affixed this 28th day of April, 2016.
