Mayoral Proclamation - Mayvis Solberg Day - 03.08.2015


  • WHEREAS, A birthday celebration will be held on Sunday, March 8, 2015 recognizing the 100th birthday of Mayvis Solberg; and

  • WHEREAS, In her 100 years, Mayvis witnessed events such as: women’s right to vote, the Depression, going from using horses on her parent’s farm to watching flights into outer space, many wars, tremendous advances in medicine, the computer age and much more; and

  • WHEREAS, Mayvis enlisted in the Nurse’s Corps during WWII and used her nursing degree throughout her career until retirement; and

  • WHEREAS, Mayvis volunteered in many capacities after retirement and continues to quilt at Atonement Lutheran Church in Fargo and sews in her room at The Pioneer House; and

  • WHEREAS, Mavis, keeping in line with her independent and tough spirit, lived on her own until the age of 97.

  • NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That I, Timothy J. Mahoney, Mayor of the City of Fargo, do hereby proclaim March 8, 2015 as Mayvis Solberg Day in the City of Fargo, North Dakota and encourage all fellow residents, family and friends to pay tribute to Mrs. Solberg on her 100th birthday and wish her health and happiness in all her days to come.
