The Mayor’s Advisory Council on Rental Housing will convene its first meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 4, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Commission Chambers at Fargo City Hall, 225 4th St. N.
The Advisory Council is bringing together renters, landlords, property managers, community organizations and City staff to develop practical recommendations to address rental housing concerns and opportunities in Fargo. The Council’s efforts will build on the input received during the Renters Listening Session that Mayor Josh Boschee hosted Sept. 21 at City Hall.
“The Mayor’s Advisory Council on Rental Housing is an opportunity to take what we’ve heard from community members and turn those conversations into meaningful recommendations,” stated Mayor Boschee. “Over the coming months, the Council will work to identify practical solutions to make Fargo’s rental housing more stable, safe and affordable, while supporting a healthy rental market. Whether you rent your home or own your home, we all have an interest in ensuring that rental properties are well maintained and that Fargo remains a place people can afford to call home.”
After the first meeting on Nov. 4, the Advisory Council will hold monthly meetings on the second Wednesday of each month, for a total of six meetings, with additional meetings as needed. All meetings will be open to the public and held in the Commission Chambers from 4 to 6 p.m. Residents can also watch meetings on the City of Fargo’s social media platforms, TVFargo.com and Fargo’s public access television channels.
Residents will have an opportunity to comment in person at each meeting. Residents may also submit input at FargoND.gov/RentalHousing. The webpage will also provide meeting agendas, minutes and other documents. At the conclusion of its work, the Advisory Council will provide the Mayor and City Commission with a final report that includes specific recommendations and a timeline for implementation.
