Mayoral Proclamation - National Breastfeeding Month 08.01.26

The City of Fargo urges everyone to prioritize supporting families by promoting healthy lifestyles and informed infant feeding choices.

WHEREAS, Families are a priority in The City of Fargo, and supporting them includes ensuring access to environments that promote healthy lifestyles and informed infant feeding choices; and

WHEREAS, Human milk feeding, commonly know as breastfeeding, is the optimal source of infant nutrition and a proven pubic health strategy that supports lifelong health and development; and

WHEREAS, Breastfeeding offeres significant benefits to both infants and mothers, including lower rates of childhood obesity, diabetes and infections, as well as reduced risk of maternal breast and ovarian cancers, type 2 diabetes and hypertension; and

WHEREAS, Families are more likely to achieve their breastfeeding goals when supported by healthcare providers, childcare centers, employers and community systems through best practices and lactation friendly environments; and

WHEREAS, A breastfeeding friendly community embraces families of all races and family structures and works to eliminate barriers to human milk feeding through education, policy and cultural support.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That I, Josh Boschee, Mayor of The City of Fargo, do hereby proclaim August 2026 to be

NATIONAL BREASTFEEDING MONTH and WORLD BREASTFEEDING WEEK AUGUST 1-7, 2026

in The City of Fargo and urge everyone to prioritize supporting families by promoting healthy lifestyles and informed infant feeding choices.
