WHEREAS, The City of Fargo, located along the Red River and spanning approximately 50 square miles with more than 140,000 residents, faces year-round exposure to seasonal flooding, severe storms, blizzards and tornadoes that require vigilance, planning and coordination to protect the lives, property and continuity of the community; and
WHEREAS, The City of Fargo Emergency Management program supports the safety of major community gatherings. including the Fargo Marathon, the Downtown Fargo Street Fair and several parades by developing emergency action plans and coordinating with public safety, public health and community partners before, during and after each event; and
WHEREAS, The City of Fargo Emergency Management program works throughout the year to protect the community, providing more than $1.1 million in federal grant support to public safety departments and regional partners since 2022, conducting exercises and training to ensure the City is prepared to respond to emergencies and supporting statewide initiatives that strengthen emergency management across North Dakota.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT I, Josh Boschee, Mayor of Fargo, do hereby proclaim that the month of August to be
EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AWARENESS MONTH
in the City of Fargo and urge everyone to appreciate the community's emergency manager. With support from the International Association of Emergency Managers, the National Emergency Management Association and Big City Emergency Managers, we recognize their vital work in preparing, protecting and serving the communities against all hazards.
