The Fargo Public Library’s 2026 Summer Reading Challenge, "Unearth a Story," starts Monday, June 8. This year’s program offers a summer-long lineup of weekly storytimes, special performances and unique activities tailored for all ages – kids, teens and adults. The free program runs through Aug. 15, and anyone can participate by reading, attending events and completing challenges.

Kids and families are invited to jump-start their summer by attending the Unearth a Story Kickoff Party on Monday, June 8, from 10 a.m. to noon at the downtown Main Library, 101 4th Street North. Open to kids of all ages, this free event will feature dino-sized digging machines and a fantastic foam party. Participants should dress to get foamy and bring a towel. In case of inclement weather, these activities will be rescheduled to a later date. Note: residents do not need to be registered for the online reading challenge to attend Fargo Public Library events.

Parking for the kickoff event is free and available in the lot east of the Main Library along 3rd Street North, in the lot on the west side of the Main Library along 4th Street North, and in the lot west of City Hall between the Civic Center and City Hall. Street parking along 4th Street North and 3rd Avenue North is also available.

Pre-registration for the Summer Reading Challenge is open online, and readers can join the program anytime until Aug. 15. The program uses Beanstack, an online service for readers of all ages, to log the days they spend reading to earn prizes. Register at fargolibrary.beanstack.org or pick up an official reading log at any Fargo Public Library location beginning June 8; all participants need to register to take part. Paper reading logs will be available; however, patrons are encouraged to use the online format. Visit fargolibrary.org/SummerReadingProgram to learn more and to register. The Fargo Public Library’s Summer Reading Challenge is sponsored in part by the Friends of the Fargo Public Library.

All Fargo Public Library events are free and open to the public. Adults must accompany children ages 9 and younger. For more information regarding the Fargo Public Library and a list of upcoming Summer Reading Challenge events for all ages, call 701.241.1492
