The City of Fargo to Conduct Maintenance of Emergency Sirens May 25-29

Routine maintenance on Fargo’s outdoor warning sirens will include brief daytime activations

05/22/2026

The City of Fargo will perform routine preventative maintenance on its 37 outdoor warning sirens the week of May 25-29. As part of this work, individual sirens will be briefly activated during daytime hours at various times throughout the week. Residents who hear brief siren activations during this period do not need to take shelter, unless there is an actual emergency. These activations are part of planned maintenance and are not emergency alerts.

Stay Informed
Residents are encouraged to sign up for Cass Clay Alerts, a free emergency notification system that sends alerts directly to your phone or email. Register at FargoND.gov/CassClayAlerts

The City of Fargo’s Office of Emergency Management also encourages residents to have a NOAA All-Hazards Weather Radio with Specific Area Message Encoding (SAME) technology for dependable indoor warning information. NOAA Weather Radios provide alerts even when cellphone service or power is disrupted.

Routine Siren Testing
In addition to the maintenance May 25-29, Fargo regularly conducts full-system outdoor warning siren tests on the first Wednesday of each month at 1 p.m. The regularly scheduled testing for Wednesday, June 3, will occur as planned. During a scheduled test or maintenance activity, residents do not need to take action.

If residents are ever unsure whether a siren activation is a test, maintenance activity, or real emergency, they should move indoors and check:
• Cass Clay Alerts notifications
• Local media outlets for guidance from local officials, including information from the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
• Official City of Fargo communication channels
