Mayor Dr. Tim Mahoney will issue a proclamation declaring Thursday, February 12, 2026, as Giving Hearts Day to encourage support for the 24-hour fundraising event that benefits organizations in North Dakota and northwest Minnesota. Mayor Mahoney will release his proclamation on February 12, and that evening, Fargo City Hall and the Spirit of the Sandbagger monument will be lit red in honor of Giving Hearts Day.
“Giving Hearts Day reflects the spirt of the Fargo region. Every year, residents step up for their neighbors and demonstrate the generosity that defines our community,” Mayor Mahoney stated. “I encourage everyone to volunteer or donate this year and help make a lasting contribution to a local organization.”
Hundreds of charities and organizations are participating in Giving Hearts Day this year, including two City of Fargo causes: the Gladys Ray Shelter and the Fargo Police Foundation.
The Fargo Police Foundation is accepting donations to help support a department-wide wellness app for FPD staff, as well as specialized wellness training for the peer support team. These resources will better equip officers and civilian employees to support one another after challenging calls for service.
The Gladys Ray Shelter is receiving donations to help remove barriers that an individual experiencing homelessness may have to accessing housing. This will allow Gladys Ray staff to assist shelter guests in securing housing supports and provide resources and referrals to help prevent a return to homelessness.
Giving Hearts Day is Thursday, February 12, but early giving is now open. To learn more about the Fargo Police Foundation and Gladys Ray Shelter and where to donate, visit FargoND.gov/GivingHearts.
