Get ready to bundle up with your favorite reads for a chance to win prizes! All ages are invited to participate in the “Happy Birthday Fargo Public Library!” Winter Reading Challenge, the library's seasonal program that encourages reading and learning over the winter. This year’s reading challenge theme celebrates the library’s 125th anniversary with a host of related events as part of the challenge. Readers of all ages – babies, kids, teens and adults – are invited to take part in this free program that runs from today, Monday, Jan. 5, through Saturday, Feb. 28, 2026. All ages can participate by reading, attending events and completing challenges. Registration and participation for the winter reading program begins Monday, Jan. 5; however, readers can join any time during the program dates.

Additionally, the library is offering another year-long reading challenge for adults and older teen readers. Registration and participation for the 2026 Fargo Public Library Yearlong Reading Challenge is in the Beanstack app. For this challenge, adult readers are asked to complete the prompts on the online Bingo card by telling us the title of what you read. Participants who complete a Bingo will be entered into a prize drawing at the end of the year. Readers who would like some recommendations for the reading prompts can receive suggestions from one of the Fargo Public Library librarians by calling 701.241.1492 or emailing askreference@fargolibrary.org. The free challenge runs from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2026.

Both of these reading challenges are available on Beanstack, an online service designed for readers of all ages to keep track of the days and time they spend reading to earn prizes for their efforts. To participate in either of the library’s reading incentive programs, register at fargolibrary.beanstack.org. Paper reading logs will be available starting Jan. 5 for the “Happy Birthday Fargo Public Library!” Winter Reading Challenge; however, patrons are strongly encouraged to use the online format if possible. Online registration with Beanstack is accessible via web browser and Apple or Android apps. The yearlong reading challenge for adults and older teens is only available online on Beanstack.

Fargo Public Library events are free and open to the public; adults must accompany children ages 9 and younger. For more information about the library, its services and a list of upcoming events, call 701.241.1492. If you need any accommodation in order to participate, we are happy to help to the best of our ability. Please contact the Fargo Public Library via email at Accessibility@fargolibrary.org or call 701.241.1495 at least three business days in advance.
