Two fiber companies have approached the City of Fargo to install new broadband lines throughout our neighborhoods to expand internet options for residents and businesses in Fargo. These citywide projects are part of a national effort to increase reliable high-speed access. The initiative is designed to bring modern fiber technology to our community to improve connectivity, productivity and access to essential online services across the city.
The project kicked off in 2025 and will resume in the spring of 2026. Crews will be working in easements and right-of-way areas, where many existing utilities, such as water lines, sewer lines, gas lines and electricity lines, are already located. Fargo coordinates with each provider to protect infrastructure, support safe installation and ensure proper restoration.
Expanding fiber internet access brings added choice and competition for residents, in addition to long-term infrastructure benefits for the community. By balancing upgrades like this with care for our neighborhoods, we continue to invest in infrastructure projects that support today’s needs and the needs of the future.
