WHEREAS, Don Haney has been covering local and statewide news in Fargo for more than 30 years and his steadfast reporting and ability to share the facts has made him a trusted partner of the citizens, the government, the law makers, the civil servants and fellow journalists; and
WHEREAS, Don has been on the airwaves of the region serving the people of Fargo during numerous floods, including the flood of 1997, breaking news, national stories and investigative stories such as breaking the news Amazon had chosen our community for a warehouse space; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his decades-long tenure, Don became a trusted and familiar voice in the Red River Valley, covering the stories that shaped the region’s identity and resilience; and
WHEREAS, Don’s reporting style was marked by accuracy, empathy and a deep understanding of the communities he served, whether chronicling the triumphs or tragedies of North Dakota and Minnesota life, he brought context and clarity to every broadcast; and
WHEREAS, Don’s dedication to making sure the news was accessible to everyone in a timely manner has been at the forefront of his long career serving the residents of Fargo and the surrounding communities.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Dr. Timothy J. Mahoney, Mayor of Fargo, North Dakota do hereby proclaim October 30, 2025, to be
DON HANEY CAREER RECOGNITION DAY
in the City of Fargo where the citizens and myself wish Don and his wife, Deb, a very long and happy retirement.
