On Monday, October 20, at 8:11 p.m., the Fargo Police Department attempted to locate a wanted person at a hotel in the 1700 block of 44th Street South. Upon arrival, officers confirmed the location of Trevor Nelson, a 31-year-old Fargo resident who had an outstanding warrant for Felony Escape out of Cass County, North Dakota. Officers secured the area and established a perimeter. Despite attempts to get Nelson to surrender, he refused to exit his hotel room.
The hotel was evacuated, and a search warrant was obtained. The Red River Valley SWAT Team was activated to assist in executing the warrant. Additional support was provided by the Grand Forks Regional SWAT Team, West Fargo Police Department, Cass County Sheriff’s Office and the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
Nelson continued to refuse to surrender despite officers deploying a chemical irritant. Ultimately, at 2:27 a.m. on Tuesday, October 21, Nelson was taken into custody. He was arrested on the outstanding felony warrant, and additional charges may be forthcoming. Nelson was transported to a local healthcare facility to be medically cleared before being booked into the Cass County Jail.
“This incident highlights the Fargo Police Department’s core value of Guardianship and Professionalism of our officers,” said Neighborhood Services Capt. Travis Moser. “We are grateful for our law enforcement partners, and the safe resolution of a potentially dangerous situation.”
