The event will kick off the Forestry Department’s fall planting activities, including 300 tree replacements citywide

09/12/2025

The City of Fargo Forestry Department, along with the North Dakota Forest Service, will celebrate Arbor Day on Monday, September 15, beginning at 2 p.m. at the new Public Works Administrative Building, 2401 3rd Ave. N. Mayor Dr. Tim Mahoney will read an Arbor Day proclamation, and two trees will be planted as landscaping improvements to the Administrative Building. The City of Fargo previously scheduled an Arbor Day event in May, which was postponed due to rain. Monday’s event will kick off the Forestry Department’s fall planting activities, including 300 tree replacements citywide and the Reforest the Red Event scheduled for Wednesday, September 17, in collaboration with the Fargo Park District and River Keepers.

The Arbor Day Foundation has named The City of Fargo a 2025 Tree City USA, making this the 48th year Fargo has earned this honor. The Tree City USA program was founded in 1976 to encourage cities to establish and maintain urban forests. Tree City USA recognition is attained by meeting four overarching standards:
• Maintaining a tree board or department
• Having a community tree ordinance
• Spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry
• Celebrating Arbor Day

More information about the Tree City USA program is available at ArborDay.org.
