Some people may not know that Fargo Cass Public Health is a City of Fargo agency that serves Fargo, West Fargo, Cass County and other surrounding counties. It’s funded through a combination of federal, state and local funds.
The Fargo Cass Public Health team plays a critical role in the region by providing essential health services, leading public health preparedness and promoting wellness initiatives for our residents. The team is constantly looking out for our most vulnerable citizens, partnering with schools and organizations to build a healthier future for the whole community. They make the Fargo region a safe and healthy place to call home.
During Tuesday’s City Commission meeting, we recognized Fargo Cass Public Health for all they do, and we presented the Fargo Rising Star Award to a recipient chosen by Fargo Cass Public Health leadership.
The award went to Mike Hondlik, who has served Fargo Cass Public Health for five years. He started as a seasonal Emergency Management Intern in 2020. The next year, he was hired by the Environmental Health Division as an Office Associate.
In his role, Mike handles a high volume of phone calls and in-person inquiries, and he provides residents with information about Environmental Health programs, licensing and regulations. He resolves over 800 nuisance complaints each year, conducts annual billing for over 1,700 licensees and assists with documenting 3,500 annual health inspections.
Mike is known for his integrity, positive attitude, strong work ethic and outstanding customer service. He consistently volunteers to take on additional responsibilities, provides impeccable attention to detail and is a valued team member at Fargo Cass Public Health.
