WHEREAS, August 14, 2025, marks the 90th anniversary of the Social Security Act, a landmark law establishing one of the most enduring institutions in American history; and
WHEREAS, for nine decades, Social Security has transformed millions of American lives by providing critical financial protection for retirees, people with disabilities and surviving families, becoming the foundation of economic security for generations; and
WHEREAS, Social Security currently supports more than 146,541 residents in North Dakota by helping to meet basic needs such as housing, food and healthcare, and generates nearly $3 billion annually in economic activity for the North Dakota economy; and
WHEREAS, Social Security is earned by workers through a lifetime of contributions and has stood the test of time, offering peace of mind to people from all backgrounds; and
WHEREAS, as we commemorate this historic milestone, we reaffirm our commitment to protecting and strengthening Social Security for both current and future generations, recognizing its continued importance as the foundation of economic security for millions of Americans.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT I, Dr. Timothy J. Mahoney, Mayor of Fargo, do hereby proclaim August 14 to be the
90TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SOCIAL SECURITY ACT
in The City of Fargo and call upon the citizens to reflect on its importance and to support efforts that ensure Social Security remains strong and sustainable for generations to come.
