View the signed Mayoral Proclamation for Americans with Disabilities Act Day
WHEREAS, the Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into law by President George H. W. Bush on July 26, 1990, in the presence of over 3000 disability rights advocates; and
WHEREAS, in the signing of the landmark legislation, President Bush proclaimed the ADA to be “the world’s first comprehensive declaration of the equality of people with disabilities,” and acknowledged their rights to be endowed with the same inalienable rights established in the Declaration of Independence; and
WHEREAS, the ADA has sought to ensure that people with disabilities are recognized and respected as equal citizens, including equal opportunities to access inclusive education, affordable housing, and gainful employment, while fully participating in the recreational, leisure and social activities in their communities; and
WHEREAS, the ADA works to ensure that people with disabilities are free from discrimination, treated with respect and dignity and move freely throughout the community, while living in the lease restrictive environment; and
WHEREAS, our nation is stronger today because of the Americans with Disability Act, and the contributions of persons with Disabilities.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Dr. Timothy J. Mahoney, Mayor of the City of Fargo, North Dakota, do hereby proclaim July 26, 2025 as
AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT DAY
in The City of Fargo and call upon the citizens of the community to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act and continue efforts to uphold the rights of all individuals.
