Emily Vaagene and Madilyn Waldal will be recognized Tuesday, July 15

07/14/2025

The Fargo Police Department (FPD) will recognize two citizens for their actions in assisting law enforcement and making a lasting impact on the community. The recognition ceremony will take place at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15, in Gateway Commons at FPD headquarters (105 25th St. N.).

On March 15, 2025, FPD Officer Greg Schlangen and citizens Emily Vaagene and Madilyn Waldal collaborated to provide lifesaving care to an unresponsive male experiencing a suspected overdose in the middle of a busy Fargo intersection. Waldal and Vaagene began CPR while Officer Schlangen administered Narcan and performed chest compressions until paramedics arrived. In recognition of their swift and selfless actions, both citizens are being honored with the Citizen Citation for Distinguished Service Award and Officer Schlangen will be honored with a Lifesaving Award.
