We are continuing our effort to recognize and highlight the outstanding work that our City departments do every day to serve the residents of Fargo.
Our team is dedicated to ensuring that operations run smoothly—24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
As part of each Commission meeting, we are taking time to spotlight one of our departments and honor their hard work and exceptional customer service.
These teams are the pillars of local government, and it’s important we recognize the people who make it all happen.
We look forward to sharing these stories with our community – demonstrating our commitment to going above and beyond for our residents.
Every week, Solid Waste drivers make their way through our neighborhoods to do the essential work of collecting our trash and recyclables.
Our crews pick up waste at 7,000 households per day.
All told, they serve 29,000 residential accounts and 1,000 commercial accounts.
The Solid Waste Department also does an amazing job of operating our Landfill, the Household Hazardous Waste Facility and compost sites.
Our Solid Waste employees are constantly working to keep Fargo clean and to protect our environment.
Their work is vital to keeping Fargo beautiful.
As we spotlight the achievements of our departments, we are instituting an honor for City employees called the Fargo Rising Star Award.
This award honors employees who have been with The City of Fargo for seven years or less and have consistently gone above and beyond in their service to our community.
This week, we're bestowing the Fargo Rising Star Award to a recipient chosen by the leadership of the Solid Waste Department.
The award goes to – Dustin Halsne.
Dustin has served in the Solid Waste Department for six years, steadily advancing through the ranks.
He started as an Operator and eventually took on the role of Leachate and Landfill Gas Technician.
Now, as Solid Waste Landfill Supervisor, he leads a team of 16 full-time employees and one seasonal employee.
In his role, Dustin oversees the safe and environmentally compliant operation of the Fargo Landfill, which processes over 220,000 tons of waste in a year.
He also manages composting efforts and The City’s renewable energies program.
Both are critical components of Fargo’s sustainability initiatives.
Dustin is recognized for his emphasis on professional growth and his willingness to take on complex, specialized roles.
His self-starting attitude and dedication have made a lasting impact on the Solid Waste Department and The City’s broader environmental goals.
Congratulations, Dustin!
Your commitment to service and your outstanding efforts truly make you a Fargo Rising Star.
