Xcel Energy plans to install 4.5 miles of new natural gas line in Fargo and West Fargo. This project will accommodate and support area growth to continue to serve existing and new customers and enhance system resiliency during cold weather events.
Crews will install the natural gas line using a combination of open trenching and boring. Open trenching involves digging a trench and placing the natural gas line in the trench. Boring involves using a bore machine to create an underground pathway through which the natural gas line is pulled or drilled.
Prior to starting construction, you may notice marking of utility lines and “potholing” to verify their locations.
During construction, Xcel will take measures to reduce potential public inconveniences that may include:
- Partial or complete road or sidewalk closures.
- Traffic control measures including flaggers and detours.
- Temporary changes to site access.
- Elevated levels of noise and presence of heavy equipment.
