Project: 52nd Avenue Reconstruction Project
After the morning rush hour Monday, September 16, contractors for the City of Fargo’s 52nd Avenue South improvement project will begin the final phase and extend the work area east of the 45th Street South intersection. A new westbound right-turn lane is needed to be built along 52nd Avenue South between 44th Street South and 45th Street South to add an additional through lane to meet the new roadway design.
The existing westbound 52nd Avenue South designated right-turn lane to northbound 45th Street South traffic will be closed for approximately three weeks, weather permitting, to complete removals and paving operations in the stretch.
Once traffic control is in place, motorist can expect the following:
- OPEN: Shared through and right-turn lane for westbound 52nd Avenue South motorist to access 45th Street South
- OPEN: Designated left-turn lane
- CLOSED: Designated right-turn lane
Project work is approximately 80 percent complete in the 52nd Avenue South work zone. Crews plan to complete the final 52nd Avenue South mainline westbound pave between Veterans Boulevard and 63rd Street South mid-next week. In addition to the mainline paving operations, crews continue to work on new shared use path connections, center medians, turn lanes, decorative concrete, and curb throughout the project limits.
One driving lane in each direction is open to motorists between Veterans Blvd to 45th Street South intersection and west of 63rd Street South intersection to east of the Sheyenne River.
Speeds are reduced near the school on Veterans Blvd. The all-way stop added by city at 44th Avenue South and 53rd Street South intersection has been removed and traffic has resumed its normal driving pattern through this intersection. Motorists are encouraged to add extra time to their travel plans through the area during peak hours.
The mile and a half stretch of 52nd Avenue South between 45th Street South and 63rd Street South improvement project is spread over six-phases through October and is completely reconstructing the rural two-lane roadway to an urban four-lane divided roadway with dedicated turn lanes.
