Zone: Downtown
Project: 2nd Avenue N Reconstruction

Today, Friday, October 7, contractors for the City of Fargo’s 2nd Avenue North project opened the intersection of Roberts Street and 2nd Avenue N to traffic in downtown Fargo.

Drivers will encounter a three-way stop at the intersection. The intersection will change to a four-way stop once the full project is complete by the end of October. There will no longer be a traffic signal operating at the intersection.

West of the Roberts Street and 2nd Avenue N intersection, crews are progressing on the second phase of the roadway reconstruction and water main replacement work. Paving operations will begin in the coming weeks on the last stretch of project work.

The traffic pattern west of Roberts Street:

  • 2nd Avenue N between Roberts St and 7th Avenue N: CLOSED to traffic
  • Motorists detour via 1st Avenue North or 4th Avenue N
  • 7th Street N and 2nd Avenue N intersection: CLOSED for access to 2nd Avenue N
  • Street parking remains north on 7th Street N

Street parking is currently reduced but sidewalks are maintained on the north and south side of 2nd Avenue North, providing access to local businesses and the post office throughout the whole project. Access to the Roberts Commons parking ramp is maintained from the north via Roberts Street.

Two adjacent projects are occurring near this work zone. Starting Monday, October 9, through December, private construction project work will close the north sidewalk, bike lane and parking lane between Roberts alley and Roberts Street. This is the section in front of the Roberts Commons Parking ramp on 2nd Avenue N.

This week the Roberts Street alley closed for city improvement project. The accessway is closed to deliveries and pedestrian traffic between 2nd Avenue N – 4th Avenue N. Businesses are asked to remember to use the designated delivery areas at 4th Avenue, 3rd Avenue and 2nd Avenue N throughout the duration of the alley work.
