Zone: Downtown
Project: 2nd Avenue N Reconstruction: Roberts Alley to 7th St.

FARGO, N.D. (June 29, 2017) – Contractors for the City of Fargo plan to start work on a large area road project next week on Wednesday, July 5, after busy Fourth of July travel. Traffic impacts for this reconstruction and utility improvement project begin that morning when contractors will close 2nd Avenue N, just west of the Broadway intersection to Roberts Street. The Roberts St. intersection and Roberts St. Alley will remain open during initial project work, but both will close in the coming weeks. Details will be distributed by FargoStreets ahead of those impacts.

This is the first phase of the project, which will ultimately reconstruct 2nd Ave. N from Roberts Alley to 7th Street N, including water main replacement and street lighting improvements. Some of the pavement and existing water mains were installed more than 100 years ago.

During this first phase of project work, 2nd Ave. N will close to traffic in both directions and parking on the street will be reduced. Sidewalks will be maintained on the south side of the road, providing access to local businesses and the post office through the whole project. As contractors work on this stretch, they will also begin phase two of the project, working from east to west and closing 2nd Ave. N between Roberts St. and 7th St. N. During some project work, 2nd Ave. N will be closed from Roberts Alley to 7th St. N.

Drivers should pay attention to posted detour routes including 1st Avenue N via Broadway and 8th Street N. Both phases of the project are scheduled to be completed by late October.
